LIVERPOOL ONE WORLD FESTIVAL HAILED A SUCCESS
Liverpool’s diverse cultures converge on day of festivities, themed “Celebrating Diversity through Integration and Involvement”…
The recent Liverpool One World Festival, held in Kensington, Liverpool on March 28th was hailed an overwhelming success by the organisers, performers and attendees.
The main objective of the Festival is to advance the education of the public in citizenship, and arts and culture by using the annual festival to promote racial awareness, celebrate diverse cultures, and to improve the conditions of life of Liverpool’s diverse communities.
By bringing people together to celebrate diversity and make new friends the Festival challenges discrimination and racism and foster a sense of social cohesion between all the communities.
The event represented an amazing fusion of cultures, with performances by over 12 different groups from different nationalities, including African, Polish, Chinese, Indian, Caribbean, Arabic and of course British. Activities included Tai Chi workshops, drumming workshops, dance workshops, poetry reading, calligraphy, drama, arts and crafts. One of the highlights of the day was the cultural food, featuring African, Caribbean, Indian, Polish and Middle-Eastern catering.
The activities were designed to get beneath the surface of people’s cultures, to bring people together in friendship, and solidarity.
Garth Dallas, One World Festivals (UK) Ltd’s Director (the company that staged the event) said: “We are pleased to continue the development of the One World Festival, and would like to specially thank the main funders, Kensington Regeneration and Riverside, for their support. I would also like to thank the individuals who assisted in the event’s planning and management on the day.”
“The Liverpool One World Festival has huge potential and we will continue to ensure that it is well established on the City’s cultural calendar. In addition our vision is to develop the One World Festival brand across the region to be synonymous with high quality, well organised, global citizenship events that truly showcase the beauty of cultural diversity.”
